December 2024 – Holiday gift ideas
Grounded by a storm, we met on Zoom to talk about all things holiday sewing.
All the fun stuff we do at our monthly chapter meetings in Cedar Rapids.
Grounded by a storm, we met on Zoom to talk about all things holiday sewing.
Under Kay’s guidance, we paired up and took all the measurements one might need to make or alter patterns for perfect fit.
Our fellow member Carmela walked us through the myriad interfacings available on the market and explained when to use which.
Helios Stitches staff came over to talk to us about using rulers for quilting.
Our member Laura taught us all about knits. She showed us videos of how specific types of knits are made, discussed how best to use each kind of knit, and even let us pet a bunch of knits from her stash. Show & Tell
Rhonda Pierce from Schmetz Needles came to share her vast knowledge of sewing machine needles – the different needle tips and shapes and sizes, and when to use which.
We celebrated our chapter’s birthday by – what else? – shopping for fabulous fabrics and finding new inspiration in fabric stores in our area.
Diane McCauley came to teach us how to make buttons out of polymer clay. Because what’s better than a hand-made garment? One with hand-made buttons to match.
Judy Ramsey of House of Colour came to talk to us about colors. She showed us why wearing the right colors is important and explained how color analysis works.
Carolyn Chen introduced us to Subtraction Cutting, a method of cutting and removing fabric to create unusual shapes that lead to creative and wearable art.
