Aug 2026 – Melissa Marie Collins – fabric designer

Melissa Marie Collins, a new chapter member, is an artist who creates amazing artwork which is turned into fabric collections. She shared her artistic journey and then showed her artwork and the fabric it became. Her new collection’s art was made with inks she created from natural sources, like the seeds of avocados or walnuts. She has sewn the fabric into amazing garments, bags, and a quilt. We learned it takes about 2 years to have a collection go from the art pieces to completed fabric.

Our Goodwill Upcycle challenge began. Anyone who was interested could take 2 fabric items. The huge pile included blankets and curtains, as well as many garments. Our creations are due back at the October meeting. As always, our meeting ended with Sew and Share.
